think it. move it. throw it. dig it. stomp it. bury it. kick it. build it. stack it. soak it. rip it. dance it. swim it. scream it. burn it. put it.
The Meeting Spot, 2024
Materials: cob (clay, sand, straw), pipes, clay, pulleys, plants, buckets, cushions
The Meeting Spot is a contemplative space made from traditional cob (clay, sand, and straw), designed as a place of rest and reflection within the environment. This restful space was created through a series of labor-intensive actions, highlighting the connection between effort and tranquility. A ceramic whistle on a rope and pulley lifts a robin's nest into a tree, while tubes connected to a damaged maple tree allow visitors to send their breath for healing. Portholes direct views to specific points in the landscape, and a pulley system waters grass seedlings. The structure's materials were sourced from the subsoil beneath it, with community involvement in every step—performances, intention-burying, and cob mixing. Designed to gradually disintegrate, the installation will eventually become a grassy mound as native seeds take root.
